Description:

Steam dried fishmeal is the product resulting from the treatment under rendering cooking and pressure, of clean undecomposed fish waste including;  heads, skeletons, tails, fins, fish meat and viscera, which is then steam dried.  It is processed from fresh fish caught in the clean waters off Seychelles in the Indian Ocean.

Physical properties:

Colour – light to medium brown consistent with clean fresh fishmeal; odour - fresh
Texture – 100% to pass through a U.S. mesh no. 7 screen;  and
98% to pass through U.S. no. 10 screen
Uniformity – each lot should be as uniform relative to colour, composition, and texture as possible.

The product is treated with antioxidant at the dosage rate of 500ppm.

Microbiological requirements:

Fishmeal production is aimed at minimising the level of microbiological contamination of the rendered product, by the adoption of codes of practice for hygenic production of rendered product. e coli = nil, salmonella = nil.

Shelf life:

This product should be stored at ambient temperatures in clean, dry bins, free from foreign matter and away from high heat;  exclude contamination of rodents, insects, birds or any other animals. If maintained correctly shelf life is minimum 6 months.
