Talloman

Talloman is our Rendering Division that produces high-quality feed ingredients from animal by-products

Our Rendering Division Talloman has a rich history of over 80 years, and is renowned for utilising cutting-edge, eco-friendly techniques that produce zero waste and require minimal energy.

Established in the 1940’s, the original facility was replaced by a new state-of-the-art rendering plant in 2010 at the same site in Hazelmere.

Environmental Considerations

Environmental impact is a top priority for Talloman, which is why we have implemented measures to address potential issues. Our factory air, point source odours, and non-condensable gases are all treated through a large biofilter that consists of four cells.

These cells are designed to be oversized, allowing the plant to function efficiently on three cells if one needs maintenance. Our biomass is subjected to computer-controlled moisture levels and watering, with visual inspections conducted three times a day to ensure adherence to our license conditions.

Our wastewater undergoes treatment in a sequence of covered anaerobic lagoons, followed by passage through an activated sludge plant, which effectively removes nutrients before it is ultimately discharged to the sewer.

All up the plant processes over 180,000 tonnes of raw material each year.

The outcome of this process is the creation of top-notch, nutrient-rich feed components derived from typically unusable by-products of the meat production industry. These feed ingredients are then incorporated into finished feed utilized by various industries such as pet food, aquaculture, and pig and poultry farming.

Sustainably Processed

Our process is the epitome of sustainability, achieved through world-leading scientific and technological advancements, and managed by our team of highly qualified and experienced professionals. Through the recycling of animal by-products into valuable ingredients, we effectively reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, which in turn benefits the environment.

Compared to landfilling, rendering reduces the carbon footprint by a staggering 90%.

Furthermore, the tallow obtained from our Press Dewatering System is an excellent candidate for biofuel production, given its low nitrogen and sulphur content.
