Talloman Poultry Rendering Facility Opening

Craig Mostyn Group unveiled a new $20 million investment in the livestock industry’s circular economy yesterday, with the official opening of a new poultry line at our Talloman facility in Hazelmere, WA. We were honoured to have the facility officially launched by WA Minister for Agriculture and Food; Fisheries; Forestry; Small Business; Mid West, the Hon. Jackie Jarvis MLC and attended by our Chair Neil Kearney and Board members David Foote, David Keyte, Andrew Mostyn and Nicki Anderson. Part of the Group’s $100m capital upgrade program across our processing sites, the new poultry line will process 50,000 tonnes per year of chicken byproducts into stock and aqua feed, pet food, biofuel feedstock and fertilisers. Talloman is WA’s only chicken renderer, ensuring chicken byproducts from abattoirs, boning rooms, butchers and supermarkets around WA are converted into valuable products instead of being consigned to landfill. Craig Mostyn Group CEO Wayne Crofts said although the Group had a significant focus on supplying protein for families both domestically and around the world through its V&V Walsh, Linley Valley Pork and Jade Tiger Abalone businesses, Talloman’s rendering facility was an important company asset to ensure circularity. “The circular economy, where products and materials are reused, repaired or recycled as the case may be, for as long as possible to minimise waste and maximise resource efficiency, is important to the Craig Mostyn Group,” Mr Crofts said. In addition to increasing capacity, the new facility uses less gas, improves wastewater quality, and suppresses odour through a negative pressure room, and biofilter. The delivery of this project is a credit to the entire team at Talloman and their extra efforts working in and around the comissioning of the facility and in particular General Manager Ben Baron, Project Manager Andrew Cahill, and Operations Manager Greg Cotter. The tallow industry maintains a special place in our Group’s history.  Craig Mostyn was founded more than 100 years ago by Robert Mostyn and George Craig to trade tallow to the United Kingdom.

Linley Valley Pork Value-Chain Expansion

A $25 million investment in the future of Western Australia’s largest integrated pork supplier and exporter has been officially opened at Linley Valley Pork, Wundowie. Linley Valley Pork is part of the Craig Mostyn Group. Linley Valley Pork’s new expanded chillers and boning room, the addition of another retail ready line, and logistics upgrade provides numerous capacity, quality, efficiency and value benefits to Linley Valley Pork and its commercial partners. The upgrade was officially opened by WA Agriculture Minister Hon Jackie Jarvis at the Company’s abattoir in Wundowie, in front of staff, suppliers and business partners. Craig Mostyn Group CEO Wayne Crofts said Craig Mostyn’s investment in the expansion would provide significant benefits to LVP, its suppliers and its Australian and international customers. “As one of the largest pork processors in Australia, and the largest in Western Australia, the upgrades will ensure LVP possesses industry leading cold chain facilities to maximise capacity and efficiency, achieve supreme meat quality and ensure we are extracting maximum value from each pig we process through greater onsite value-adding, such as retail ready packaging,” he said. “In particular, this expansion will increase throughput and enhance employee safety. “These benefits, combined with our geographical location and product integrity will enhance customer experience whether in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines or Vietnam.” Linley Valley employs more than 470 people at the Wundowie abattoir, where 100 per cent of locally sourced and WA grown pork, which includes both large and small growing operations, is processed. Currently 15,000 pigs are processed per week producing more than 56 million kilograms of meat annually. Mr Crofts acknowledged the staff and external contractors who have contributed to the upgrade project. The Linley Valley Pork suppliers and staff also used the occasion to remind consumers to look for the “buy west eat best” logo to support WA farmers.

V&V Walsh Cold Storage Opening

A $50 million investment in the future of Western Australia’s livestock sector has been officially opened by major WA livestock processor V&V Walsh.  The Company’s new state-of-the-art cold store, which can chill and freeze up to 65,000 cartons of beef, mutton and lamb at a time, was officially opened by WA Agriculture Minister Hon Jackie Jarvis at the Company’s abattoir in Bunbury, in front of 100 staff, suppliers and business partners.  The cold store building is three stories high covers 4,000 squares metres. A key component of the cold store is the 26,000-carton automated sortation system, which provides enhanced accuracy and efficiency for both order picking and associated documentation.  It has the ability to plate and blast freeze 9,000 cartons per day.  Craig Mostyn Group CEO Wayne Crofts said Craig Mostyn’s investment in the cold store for V&V Walsh would provide significant benefits to V&V Walsh, its suppliers and its customers.  “This is a $50 million vote of confidence from Craig Mostyn Group and V&V Walsh in the future of Western Australia’s cattle, sheep and lamb industry,” he said.  “The new facility will increase the capacity of the V&V Walsh operations; enhance its ability to meet the ‘just in time’ demands for modern global supply chains; and will help improve efficiency and product quality. That provides significant benefits to V&V Walsh, the farmers who supply us with sheep and cattle, and our customers.”  Development of the cold store received a $700,000 grant from the State Government’s Value Add Investment Grant Program.  V&V Walsh employs 650 men and women at its Bunbury abattoir, which services all major supermarkets and a range of export markets.  Mr Crofts acknowledges the staff and external contractors who had contributed to bringing the cold store online.  “I want to thank all of the contractors involved with the design and construction of this impressive facility as well as V&V Walsh and CMG staff for their work integrating the cold store into our operations while also providing great quality beef, lamb and mutton to consumers in Australia and around the world.”  V&V Walsh produces 45 million kilograms of lamb, beef and mutton annually from 1 million sheep and 60,000 cattle.
